Insurance is often an afterthought for Australian’s excited about buying their new vehicle. We’ve encountered countless customers that have left their insurance to the last minute, and had no idea where to turn when it came to getting comprehensive cover. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Open Insurance, to provide customers comprehensive insurance directly through the Driva platform.

What is Comprehensive insurance?

Comprehensive car insurance typically covers you for damage to your vehicle and damage to someone else's vehicle or property. It also covers damage that’s caused by fire, storm, hail, and replacement costs if your vehicle is stolen.

This insurance can cover the cost of repairs in the event of an accident, regardless of which party is responsible for the damage. It can even cover extras like getting a rental car sorted while yours is being repaired.

Why Comprehensive insurance?

If you own a car, you probably know that compulsory third-party insurance (often called CTP) is required for your car to be on the road. This is a legal requirement to ensure the driver is covered for any legal liability for injury or death caused in an accident - but it doesn’t protect you for any damage caused to your car (or someone else’s!).

That’s why most Australians also look to take out Comprehensive insurance to ensure they can claim back the cost of repairs or replacement to their vehicle in the event of an accident.

This is even more critical when your vehicle is financed. All secured car loan lenders will very likely require that you take out comprehensive cover to protect the car in the event of an accident.

This is because the lender has security over your vehicle, so it’s in their interest to make sure the car maintains its value.

This means that 100% of the secured car loans settled through Driva have required a comprehensive insurance cover.
